What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a healing science and art which helps people achieve health without drugs or surgery. The primary treatment that people receive is spinal manipulation but they may also be advised regarding diet, exercise, rest and and other aspects of health. D.D. Palmer is credited with “inventing” chiropractic in 1895. He had been studying magnetic healing in Davenport Iowa. His theory was that spinal misalignments put pressure on the spinal nerves and spinal cord. He adjusted the custodian in his building, a man named Harvey Lilliard who happened to be deaf. The adjustment supposedly restored Mr. Lilliard’s hearing. Over the years, chiropractic has been controversial. Chiropractors have been accused of practicing medicine without a license. Today, chiropractic is known to be a safe, effective and clinically proven method for resolving health issues.
